I wonder if ripple have considered a battery for any of their existing or planned sites as another project ?

Can you have your cake and eat it? I.e. get paid not to generate/supply to grid but at the same time keep going and put it into your battery, then add it back in to your export when there isn't much wind?

It's not really cheating, as we would be avoiding overloading the grid (as they desire) some of the time but sending them renewable/carbon-free power when they would otherwise be buying in gas-generated power...

Just think of it as a fair return on the battery investment in the interests of decarbonisation.

None of them are operated to decarbonise. They are filled as cheap as possible then dumped as profitable as possible. Often ignoring the carbon intensity of the energy completely.

maybe, but I was talking about a battery associated with a windfarm... to mop up power that the grid couldn't accept.

That's why I wondered if there was a case for Ripple to have a BESS project, mop up the WT excess power to help balance the grid at high wind times, and then discharge the BESS to grid stabilise at other times - surely thats the very essence of green energy optimised? and if that is correct then its the kind of project that should be attractive to ripple and ripple investors?

That's a fun idea. And for Ripple members who have reached the technical max (is it 120% of demand?), this may be seen or offered simply as an investment to aid RE, rather than the link to the energy bill/consumption.

Just thinking out loud, probably got it all upside and backwards.

I don't see why not, the idea is the the BESS is used to balance the Grid but is done using only green energy - so the green credentials are maintained.

Perhaps this is what Ripple 4 might be... After all it would just be another shed by the grid connection shed, and shouldn't need any off-site cabling or agreements, so should be relatively cheap/self-contained.
Who has got Sarah's ear? If it's a coop, which directors could we lobby?

p.s. maybe partner with someone like Triodos so that our investments can go into an ISA? My RE investments are getting painful, tax-wise!

Ripple have shy’ed away from batteries whenever someone asks that question to them. They say as its more of a financial investment trading power and does not meet with their business model rebating against your energy bill.

However at least one Coop has already bought into a share of a battery site, so it can be done.
