Anyone think this is going to happen?
Plans to build one of the world's biggest batteries in Cardiff given green light
A huge renewable energy project that will add to east Cardiff's industrial skyline will go ahead despite concerns over habitat loss. The energy park and data centre development proposed for the old motocross track off Rover Way in Tremorfa will have a 1,000MW battery storage capacity - making it one of the biggest battery storage facilities in the world.

Saw that earlier and crossed my fingers that it would.

Well there seems to be no shortage of investment funding for BESS, the Grid wants it, and if the Govt is true to its word about planning reform, particularly for infrastructure projects, then this should go through?

Presumably 1GWh, not a GW output? I hate guessing what the mongrel journalists write!

Exactly what I thought when I first heard it, but the article (and others) do seem to be talking MW not MWh.
However ...... not wishing to be pessimistic, but I'd have thought 1GWh, not 1GW would be big for now, so it's either very good news, or incredible news?

The planning application says 1000MW, no mention of MWh annoyingly.

Annoyingly I cannot find the details either, but,
The one in California (current largest) the article mentions is 875MW and is 875MWp and 3,287 MWh capacity.

The 1040MW one mentioned in Manchester is circa 1000MWp and 2000MWh capacity, most built in the UK now tend to be 2 hour duration on max power.
https://blog.policy.manchester.ac.uk/po ... ge-problem
So I would think the Cardiff one is probably similar in size to the planned Manchester Trafford Park one at 1000MWp and 2000MWh capacity.

I think the Electric Viking has a youtube video on these. He will be good on power and energy capacity.
