Looks like EDF is going to get to keep our fleet of older reactors online for a bit longer yet

Worth noting that the final say is the regulators and even with extensions the power output will be less than current levels, at least for Heysham stage 1 and Hartlepool where corrosion of the reactor coolant baffles and heat shield is a concern as well as the condition of the pod boilers.

They’re all likely to have to have more regular statutory inspections too so their costs will go up while their power contribution goes down.

It’s At times like this that past governments should be pulled in to an enquiry to account for their decisions or lack of and maybe be held to account?
