Why the ‘eye-watering’ cost of heat pumps doesn’t add up

a telegraph article I can't really believe, promoted by MSN... (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/w ... ccd9&ei=13)
Includes
that installing a heat pump can actually lower the energy efficiency rating of your home.
...
Claire Coutinho, the shadow energy secretary, said: “The Labour Government’s approach to energy is nonsensical. Ed Miliband will make the cost of electricity eye-wateringly expensive, while also rushing to move people on to electrified home heating.”
Obviously [heat pumps etc]is all just green crap.
(And I wouldn't be surprised if the Telegraph's backers are all in favour of Trumpian policies and know which side their bread is buttered... hence this propaganda - which might thave the odd grain of truth in it to give it some credibility.)

Well the facts are true; the horrifically high ‘spark gap’ in the UK is why we aren’t all embracing heatpumps. In a perfect world everybody would want to ‘do the right thing’, but financially nudging people to do what you want is a standard government technique - what is Ed Milliband waiting for ?

Well, we all.know the price difference in gas v's electricity. The table is tilted and grids have been built in favour of FF.

Even in these enlightened times of RE uptake the grid is playing catch up and the disinformation flows from the vested ff industry along with funds to political parties and the power structure as is. This we all know.

Octopus offer incentive to fit their HP and A2A installs are not that expensive. Energy trust offer grants and interest free loans.

All these above are true to the best of my knowledge. What we don't talk about is a society of child adults who look to the very politicians who are within the polluted power structure to help them. The means are there to help themselves but not the will.

Spend less, strip back the credit card debt, don't impulse buy, save money, buy a roll of loft insulation and begin. Who said it couldn't be a decade or twenty year game?

Edit- The very difficulty of it builds character..

Well put!

Horrible irony, that a high gas price is the reason for an even higher leccy price. And the inflationary impacts were particularly hard on the construction industry and off-shore wind, pushing up costs.

Anything to shift us away from gas dictating leccy prices, and perhaps the shifting of green 'taxes' away from leccy bills and onto gas would be appreciated.

The government needs to take responsibility for supplying the last generator position in that case, they can then set the price for the generators and manage the market in an amicable way so that the generators get their fair return and the consumer doesnt get squeezed dry - helps to manage inflation in to the boot too!

Alternatively they have to redefine the whole market and lose the confidence of the private sector to invest in the UK.

Agree fully, planning on coom ceiling insulation in bedroom when Son goes away for a week on school trip, just biting away at it, as energy levels, time, funds allow…. I’m helping myself now to allow my home to be well maintained, easy to heat, as efficient as I can make it

I had a fella round the other day to quote for the last 4 windows that aren't 3g (child #2's mate's dad) ysed to be a window fitter, does the odd foreigner for mates.

I've been bidding for Flir cameras on eBay. Not had much luck. I want to spend £100 and am aware that the old iPhone connector that I have is obsolete so it'll be difficult to sell when I'm done and it won't work when I upgrade my current iPhone 12 to something newer.

I'll be interested to hear the quote?

Yep, that's pretty much what we did/doing. I'm very much of the thought that the closer to home the RE deployment is the more Impactful the deployment is.
