Seems good - retrofitted tech that enables more capacity out of the existing transmission hardware - but how does it work?

I seem to remember a previous thred about this sort of thing. iirc lines are normally limited to the capacity of worst case conditons so hot weather wth no wind, by moanitring the lne they can increase that to take advantage of more suitable conditions and put more power through - or at least something along those lines!

The sensors are a few weather stations mounted on the pylons, its hardly rocket science. :roll:

Seems obvious really. Transmission lines are rated for the hottest day of the year with zero cooling wind. However we have the highest demand on cold days and the requirement to shift the most power on windy days. So they increase the max allowable current on cold/windy days...
