Laughable drivel or what??

Re: UK to replace Russia as EU's main energy importer
What legislation is in place to stop companies exporting power to the detriment of the uk grid and therefore maintaining artificially high uk costs ?
I presume this is already guarded against or at least I would hope so ??

Today seems a good day for wind >14GW at present, yet we are importing from France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Ireland and Northern Ireland with most of the Interconnectors maxed out, using coal, but we are using little gas. Is everywhere in Europe doing well from wind? France seems to be outproducing the UK with wind.
Reality and the press appear totality contradictory, but then it was the express.

Well Andrew did sort of predict this ten years ago with estimates of our offshore wind potential being between 10 and 100x our future needs:
The UK is the Saudi Arabia of Wind Energy

Dead right, there. The UK has been running (most of) its fleet of diesel generator ‘farms’ recently (most of the ‘other’ on gridwatch?). It has been that which has mostly been exported via the inter-connectors recently. Plus coal and OCGTs, of course
While we are still using gas, the UK is a long way off of being a nett exporter of leccy, but the sooner that time arrives, the better.
Roll on pumped storage in Norway. Likely the best deal that might come along. We fill their fjords and they generate leccy for us when required. Far better than relying solely on France.

, thats funny is that a satirical magazine ?
Windgeneration is about 45 GW in Germany this evening , just for an example , and spot market El. price about half of France per MWh
But surely would be great to balance renewable energy production out between Europe

Hi Billi,
I think the transfer of power between countries is essential to stave off shortages, address national emergencies, smooth out weather patterns and green electrical production and of course to remove the power from single states to throttle energy to coarse or otherwise force certain responses.
So to that end the more interconnectors between countries as far afield as practicable the better - but there also needs to be checks and balances on the power companies to make sure they do not trade power at the cost of their primary customers ie they sell excess power only. (national emergencies aside)
It would be an amazing world if we could manage to construct a "global" grid - Nikola Tesla, I am sure, would approve.

Sorry for the link to the Daily Heil, but this article reports that during this winter, the UK has also been a net exporter of gas to the EU.
