reducing gas in the EU

Very unusually this morning every leccy interconnector was exporting to the tune of 5Gw (c15% of production) and the overnight supply/production was much greater than normal. My interpritation would be that the EU is trying its best to get off gas without the crunch of switching off the Russia pipe line. Without cheap Russian gas energy prices in EU will increase to the point where our leccy is cheaper and thus we export. With our excellent LPG network we can take imports from other countries and produce leccy to export and help out.

Many criticise our Gov as a matter of course but i think over the decades we have done an excellent job of diversifying our production/supply.

I think the export is simply to assist with the scrap against Russian greed, for expansion, by invading other countries.

15:45 again we are exporting without importing, but both coal and ocgt are generating. Gas generation is at 19GW.

Nothing from or to Norway though. And still 2 Nuclear not performing.

flick to https://gridwatch.templar.co.uk/france/ and their Nuclear is nearly off the bottom of the dial so probably propping that up overnight.
Not sure we can afford to do so over the peak period though - we've already got OCGT spooling up alongside coal at 4pm as it is owing to lack of wind so suspect it'll soon drop to 0 export.

This might have nothing to do with the Electricity situation in the uk but it appears that Russia has stopped exporting natural gas to Poland.
Poland planned to stop using Russian gas by the end of the year anyway and seems to have a significant stock, it will switch to Norway supplies later this year.

Wonder if the various grids are carrying out experiments to check on options and potetial limits prior to next winter?

Russia is doing well as it continues to shoot itself in the foot and drive forward the uptake of RE in the EU while denying itself the 'sinews of war', well done Vladimir! 👏 👏 I am so glad we have killed off almost all of our gas use regardless of its source. A fortunate coincidence.

We are need to crack on both as individuals and government in installing renewables.
A reduced demand means we have more spare to export to our lesser well off friends this winter.......
My aim is to reduce my import by at least 10% this year .........hopefully by installing more solar and removing a very ancient freezer.......
George.

That's a great goal George. I 've only been fully into this for 6 years and with the help of multiple folk on here have completely changed my way of thinking and personal goals. We had an old free,er that massively failed the vampire load test. Quite insidious the way they quietly leach away..
