Just visited Dyrham park, really interesting in the kitchen, they fitted a fan in the kitchen chimney the draw from the fire drove the fan round, this intern turned the roasting spit in front of the fire.
Green engineering . I thought that it was quite cool.

Wow, I'm surprised there is enough power in the flue draught to do that amount of work, is it a really tall chimbley

It is good to see systems harvesting waste energy for another purpose - we should make more examples of it. As Desp states, it is surprising, though, that it produces enough torque/power to rotate the spit.
