Fin tray if you fancy it I will help you get started - as I say I only have oyster shroom mycelium at the moment but when the weather warms up and I get started I can send you a starter of that mycelium if you like.

That would be great, what time of year would you normally start as warm up here might be a bit behind?

Well getting the spawn going in the growing media needs around twenty degrees but fruiting is around fifteen to twenty and consistent diffuse light so I was going to start in March and pop the bucket on the kitchen counter top while the mycelium spreads and colonises - spraying twice a day under the lid to keep it humid then as you see mycelium at the hikes I spray them too and pinning starts and the shrooms then grow rapidly from there. Outside I grow them on the west facing side of the house and store them on the outside windowsill from May onwards.

I ought to peak inside the bucket to see if anything has survived the winter.

Nice one Billi,

I've brought my bucket indoors to see if a little heat produces growth from last year, if not then I will break out my last jar of spawn and repopulate.

:) well , it is an experiment to look forward to :D

Temperature is an issue ? What do you think ? As i have no constant temperature right now warm at night and cold in the morning , i guess i should wait until spring or buy more firewood for those diamond s :D

And those timber 8 mm plugs, that will need a lot of time to show results , will probably let me think about next year :D on my walk through the forrest

I hope it works... If you are successful are you going to go into production?

Billi,

Thats looking really good, the hardwood shrooms just take a long time as you are waiting for the wood to naturally start its decay to allow the mycelium to propagate through the cellulose structure. I have some plugs to do at some point also but need to sources some nice hard wood (hard when i see wood i usually think WBS! ).

The buckets for fast fruiting shrooms are definitely temperature and moisture sensitive/ responsive ? a window sill out of the direct sun with a constant temperature around 16 degrees will be ideal to get the mycelium spread through the media and then slightly warmer more moisture at the holes and good ventilation to promote pinning at the fruiting points.

Its addictive when you get it right and your next issue will be what to cook with the mushrooms and how to store your excess (or who to sell/ trade the excess with ?)

I've brought my last year tub in now to give it a warm to see if the mycelium is able to recover - I will let you know in a weeks time if theres anything to report.
