Let me know how you get on with the golden oyster variety please Billi as I haven’t grown that variety yet. If I get time this year I’m going to try to cultivate button mushrooms or portabello’s.

Mycelium does anyone spawn their own?
Re: Mycelium does anyone spawn their own?
Nice one Billi,
the gift that keeps on giving, must lift the lid on mine and see if the mycelium is on the move now - its been in the sun for a few days to warm up but i keep forgetting to look in on it - if not then i will use my last jar of grain spawn to restart.

Well , another learning curve , as i thought , in an ideal growing world of those buckets i got , there should be more capacity in it ... so there seemes to be a will for a second life above the ground ...
Re: Mycelium does anyone spawn their own?
Just found this thread and it is very interesting.
I started trying to grow mushrooms last year.
I managed to get some freshly sawn Alder logs so I have used sawdust to try and impregnate the logs .... but It is going to be next year at the earliest before I can get anything from those (I hope).
The left over sawdust I mixed with straw and put them in mushroom growing bags - but these have not been very successful so far. I think I didn't fully sterilse the straw (which I tried to do with a wall paper steamer).
But I am now tempted to try this with the buckets .....

Re: Mycelium does anyone spawn their own?
to be honest , for me it was just Moxi as my Kickstarter .... of a lonoooong idea in the back of my head
My 2 buckets in my living-room are stilll producing some growth , not that i would say that this project is very cost efficient compared to supermarkt prices ....
But even a mushroom in a bucket can be a friend , same as a plant
Never achieved the promised yield , but that would require luxury growing conditions that are hard to achieve
Of course no sign of any growth of those wooden plugs drilled in into old /dead wood in the garden , too much hope to do that in winter (typical me)
The two buckets in my living room , i just found out like my leftover wheat beer ( but maybe i am wrong ) as a top up for moisture
Most mushrooms grow fast , but then dry out fast , but on the otherhand its just like buying dried ones and before cooking have to soften them in water
Anyway will now think about those 2 Mushroom buckets as its getting spring , and will let them go outdoors to enjoy nature
Here just for you are my last "soft" new grown out of the bucket ones
