Any problem recycling wellies boot rubber for a nesting box?

Holed Wellington (the other is fine & will be used as it looks very similar to another pair, but this one has had it.

Can I successfully cut "tiles" stick , maybe with the tack of a water based wood preserver, to weatherproof a meeting box?

If not, please suggest recycling purposes of sadly it will be off to wherever wellies boots go!

The turn them into planters just seems to be disguising waste, there is very little "actual" recycling of them so I'm thinking of just stripping & stacking the material as well protecters or "something" ..the usual web suggestions are pretty appalling.

I can't see why that couldn't be used but you could cut the leg of the welly in half to give you two tubes, cut a suitable sized hole (depending on bird type) about 25mm down, fit a circular piece of wood to each open end and waterproof the top with some of the spare welly material or a suitably size bottom of a plastic bottle, the nest box can be screwed (through the hole) to secure it in your chosen position. You could use the foot of the welly to fashion an open faced nest box for say a robin.

Good idea, I already have a bird box I'd like to reinforce (weatherproof) but likely could fashion a robin box (we have a local robin) the thick sold area although toe holed, may be good enough, maybe incorporated with couple of nesqik containers.

I hope that it works.
However, In various experiments I have had no success in attracting birds to nest boxes made from opaque plastic jars or Upvc pipe. The idea appeals because, with its screw-on lid or end caps, there is very little work to do.

Probably due to the smooth surface Gus, giving a lack of grip for their talons, unlike wood. Concrete mixed with other things seems to be acceptable to them.

Good logic, taken note.
Thanks.

A lot of nest boxes I've seen have a rubber hinged lid. Be ok for that I should think. Or indeed covering the whole roof to protect/waterproof.

Have semi successfully superglued accidental cuts in wellies up to get a bit more wear out of them. Anything perished or on a high stress area is unlikely to last.

I keep bits of heavy old inner tubes, which I guess is similar, for vibration isolation pads

Billi,
puppy chewed several big holes through the toes, so simply don't deem it salvageable, so as.it leaves me with 3 good-uns I'm good for a while (jake the peg style) :D
