ECO4 grant - ashp

My brother in law has managed to get approval for solar pv, ASHP, loft insulation & mvhr system as part of the ECO4 grant.
Seems a bit strange that they can have so much installed for free, when all they wanted was the solar pv - they were told that they could only have the full suite of stuff fitted.
From a brief look at the quote, the ashp is designed for 55 degree flow temps, with a scop of 3.5.
Seems a rather high flow temp - hoping it's not a rather half hearted design of the system to just get the grant money allocated & spent

I had approval for an Eco4 scheme for ashp at my place a year or so back, terminal cancer and biomass hesting = automatic approval for some reason. No other items offered as house fully kitted out, so they dont need to install everything.

Now having been involved in plumbing for decades and employed at the time to inspect such work, i asked for a copy of the design details, calcs and drawings. Mrs was concerned because we dont have any central heating at present, so the walls are all 'clean' with no radiators etc cluttering the place up, house is quite contemporary. In my experience am mindful such installation schemes tend to 'crash' the pipework in and i didnt fancy redoing any of it myself to tidy it up afterwards, nor have to redo the extensive loft insulation after having it trampled to death when putting in the pipework.

Anyway, long story short, the design was an absolute joke. Cant remember the exact figures they were suggesting, lets say 15kw pump as it was in that ballpark.

Anyway, our house is so well insulated we can easily heat it with 2 x 2 kw portable heaters, so had a chat with the designers - they suggested my kitchen needed that much on its own and they planned to install a 1600 long radiator. I asked them where? as there isnt a single availible wall in that room. They honestly didnt have a clue

So we told them thanks for the offer of a free £20k plus installation, but no thanks.

I think your final point is right, much easier to get one p7nter and spend a lot installing for them, rather than hunt out multiple smaller jobs. That said though, of its all for free (and not as picky as me and the mrs) why not?
