Very nice joe, do try to make up a small pan of caramel sugar to find any switching frequency problems, ..The only downside we found on our Ikea hob, which I'm loathe to fit yet another hob to replace the c r@p whirlpool unit. If anything I think a two setting unit & make more top space for the gadgets.
(Have yet to run into a 2 or more pans needed occasion in 12 months, which puts it into perspective)

Do you reckon they will next create a tax at point of purchase for total output of things like hobs as part of a tax raising energy efficiency drive in coming months / years ..just in case, I think I'll beat em to it

Worth mentioning air flow. The installation book said to leave a 5mm gap around the hob/worktop, seal the fibres as exposed by cutting if a laminate or wooden top and also the ensure a 5mm gap between underside of worktop and top of oven to allow warm air to flow out. Works well.

We spoke about the number of pans Gus and been at 2 for 6 months!

Is yours fixed down?

I was amazed when I fitted ours (an AEG) that it just sat in the hole with nothing holding it down. There are no fixings or anything, it literally just dropped into the hole and sits there, under its own weight. It does have some sort of of soft silicone seal moulding under the glass top that seals to the granite worktop, but that's it. Ours is in an island in the middle of the kitchen, so has a drawer underneath. Presumably that provides enough ventilation. Been fine for several years now, so I can only assume that it's fitted OK.

When I had to replace the job I smashed (molten plastic broke glass) it was a pig to fit into the cut out, now, as it failed within 6 or so used I have no idea if it was due to not soliciting it in place of simply naff whirlpool quality control.

..I understood the need to fill a 4 spacer with a like for like, but aren't there cover kits or something these days that have been dreamt up as maybe no -scorch areas, or does that interfere with design flow!?

No, it has 4 spring clips that hold it in place. Surprised also!

There is talk online that induction hobs can fail if not properly
Serviced with air during operation. PCB failure apparently due to overheating? After years I think you'd be OK!

Just use the 2 coils not in use as storage space?

To be honest, I was bricking it a little at this job. Went well, plenty tea and SWMBO giving a hand too. She is very happy as am I.

The drawer underneath it is pretty big, about 800mm wide, with a fair bit of space between the stuff in it and the underside of the hob. The hob itself is barely any deeper than the fairly thin granite worktop, it sticks down maybe 5mm at the most, so doesn't interfere with anything in the drawer below.
