Don’t get me on bricks

We’ve always tried to incorporate local bricks or bricks of the local area in projects we’ve done (bricks likely ‘hand’ made, over a 100 years old) as they have such a story.

In this house, we were lucky enough to, as well as reusing bricks from the house, have incorporated bricks that formed a stable floor from our neighbours house (long story, gifted bricks) that he couldn’t reuse. These were circa 250 years old.

In the last house, we were able to incorporate bricks (handmade in several surrounding villages) from the property in France.

Bricks not only are capable of storing heat, they can be a real, tangible, store of local history.

The gas disconnection aim is pretty much a carrot that I have held in front of myself over the last few years.

The reasons are multiple.

The pollution caused during the pursuit and capture of gas.
The pollution caused during the use of gas.
The whole Tom & Barbara aspect of being off gas (unless it is a bio digester in my own cellar).
The control aspect by our domestic power companies and politicians.

The above points have been in my mind for years.

Finally and long suspected, manifested this year in spectacularly horrifc fashion. The prick Putin. Weaponised gas.

Just use the 2 coils not in use as storage space?
All that cost for half the use of twice the cost for half the kit ... "HOBsons choice" will just keep an eye on prices smash out the tiles worktop & replace it with something less 1980's.

Think we can totally empathise with your views their Joe. Octopus capped our gas a couple of years ago after a previous supplier wanted a £120. Octopus did ours for nothing at the same time they installed our Smart meter. :D
On the grape front we've been picking grapes at vineyard local to us this morning, I believe 2 tonne was the order of the day and with twenty or so others we were finished by lunchtime. While they offer minimum wage to all, we happily settle for a bottle of their last years vintage plus helping ourselves to blackberries in hedgerows around the perimeter once grape picking was complete. From there is was on to our son's to pick the grapes from his vine we'd been tending during the summer and arrived home with around 20kg all ready for sorting and starting fermentation in the morning. Oh, out this evening dancing too, just to round the day off.
Afraid we can't compete with Tom good on the food side but when it comes to energy generation and homemade wine I think we'd give them a run for their money! ;)

Sounds like a great day and enormously satisfying. Tom and Barbara would be proud of you! Today I am howking out the last of the tatties and if time allows processing more apples to the freezer. Heading back out to Turkey soon to get the second eye done so have to clear the decks. On return we can hopefully hook up the LF280 battery stack extension.

Well I've found a double for £149, so now need to cost a worktop change, (not my forte) I will be removing & dumping with a letter of complaint the whirlpool at their factory in peterborough.

Of course the hard part is doubtless getting actual cooking comparisons off ikea, reductions don't like the lower pulsing that the portable unit brings with it, (makes a pan ebb & flow like a tide)

I am not following the logic here. Going from a 4 to a 2 is making you change the worktop and the expense therein? Just fit a 4.....

Worktop is 1980's previous owners diy abomination of small off white grouted tiles. .The only thing of use is the in wall spice rack.
This keeps sous vide & instantpot on top & available on their own space.

Will likely put some oak / beech or something down. which can be bought as a short length.
