continuous measurement of electricity usage

#1

Post by Djs63 »

Does anyone know of system which will record electricity usage by a GSHP please? It is an old system, about 15 years, and it has a soft start but it obviously uses a lot despite that but how much?
Proven 6 kWh max turbine, 1.8 kWh max PV and solar hot water (15 evacuated tubes). Kia eNiro and MG Z5 EV, triple glazing, ground source heat pump and wood stove plus 3000 trees, battery electric chain saw etc, 6000 litres of rainwater storage

I assume you mean electrical energy, rather than peak power, so that you can work out how much it’s using over a year or so?
Assuming that, I would recommend a mid certified electricity meter. There’s all sorts - ones that can connect to a pc, down to a basic £50 one that is inline with a display that gives total kWh from installation. Mid certified means it has a known accuracy (I think there are different levels, something like 1% and 2%), and they will all cope fine with gshp reactive power which some meters might not.

Plenty meters out there, just need to interrupt the supply cable to it.

Could you use something like this - the Open Energy Monitor CT clamp on the power supply and real-time monitoring/logging?

https://openenergymonitor.org/

Also works for solar, battery, EV charging, temperature and all sorts of other metrics

Plenty of simple totalisers out there at a tenner upwards on the usual internet auction site. I would expect measuring how much and when it was used (data logging), will cost a bit more….(per dan-b).

If it runs at constant power there may be no need to continuously monitor the amount of electricity being used?

Have you looked at Shelly -use to monitor electric import .
Have another sensor to monitor PV production but not connected yet.
