On a clearance, if you need that sort of thing to renovate a hot garage roof or similar.

Tempted to put this on our fibreglass flat roof, but have a feeling that it will be a warm roof before long.

Bostik data sheets for you to peruse..

Could be useful under Bifacial panels to improve the albedo, as long as they're 50cm+ above the surface (I seem to remember from a study somewhere) but certainly useful if it can be painted on bitumen.. We just repainted the barge with bitumen 'Tarvarnish' Black bitumen on steel gets too hot to touch.. But not sure a shiny silver barge is gonna happen But for a shed roof etc

Are you wearing a bowler hat?

Is it silvery, or greyish, it's hard to tell?

It was very sunny at times so I wore a sun hat.

You open the tin and its black, you stir it (you really need a drill paint mixer) and it turns bronze colour, you paint it and its still bronze but it dries completely silver.

Yup, it's bright, several applied layers are recommended.

& mechanical stirring a pre-requisite due to the metallic elements within the paint (which at the point of being VERY well mixed can be applied by roller) ..which you then recycle rather than wash & re-use so factor that in for this type of job.

No idea how goopy it gets in summer heat afterwards though, how did you find it Nowty?

With hotter seasons I can see this becoming far more commonplace for outbuildings & flat roof extensions, comments from others who used this being that its like the glare off a swimming pool indicating a good degree of bouncing light & hopefully cooler environment below.

Nowty, how was the spread rate compared to the statement on the can (if same product)

& lads, if sniffing this out on a reserve / walk in purchase, I took the web page in with me to get a price match as it wasn't reduced instore, these days though most B&Q have customer wi-fi (if simply passing)

Mr Gus,

I used this stuff, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171006579926 ... SwqLlcPwZw

But its pretty much the same stuff, bituminous aluminium solar paint.

Best stuff I ever used for a flat roof. Hard to mix by hand but easy with a drill powered paint mixer and you have to mix it every few minutes, so I just poured out small amounts into a roller tray. Used a paintbrush for the edges and a roller for the main flat sections, it goes on very easy as its a fairly thin liquid. Pretty much sticks well to anything.

Once its dry it stays so even in full sun. But whatever tools you use their written off, including all your clothes.

The coverage was almost as good as what the tin says, I bought too much but if I needed another tin, a similar one bought from the local Wickes would have been double the price. So we have enough for a couple of future re-coats.

I used less than 2 x 5 litre tins and did 3 coats (4 in places which was in poor condition) on the lower roof which was a bitumen roof and 2 coats on the higher roof which was a fibreglass roof in good condition. I'd say coverage was about 6 to 8 metre square per litre but they were generous coats.

Cheers nowty for the descriptive appraisal, I shall take my order up to 5 & do the flat fibre glass doors this summer too then, & order a few rollers to write off afterwards.
The "office /dog room" is a North facing roof that I've been insulating recently (pir, foil facing) which will likely have a heat pump fitted to bleed heat / cool into the dining room next door, ..Hopefully this will make the summer heat less like the pits of hell, it does catch later in the season easier to control with the insulation as the secondary barrier.
