Beware bleach or caustic soaks... I lent our bogsnake to a neighbour, he must have left it soaking in bleach as when it came back the galvanising was shot. I would expect brass connectors to suffer in the same way too.#
A bleach rinse then a wash-off would do the same job, or just a wash and let it dry out.

Yes, people fail to see bleach as a harsh alkali concoction, ..if an alkali at all, good point, probably due to bleaches association with an acid attack (mostly performed by feeble, sleighted "mummied" males)
short soak & rinse.

Why not just rinse them off and put the outside in the sun (if it ever appears again!) and let natures disinfectant (UV) kill off any nasties rather than flood yet more chemical concoctions into the drainage system? We have a septic tank here and we use bleach and disinfectant very sparingly.

Probably a lot less hazardous than leaving a tray of bleach about.

Whilst I have no intention of putting my fingers in my mouth, standards, I do not wish to risk contracting anything that will make my stomach worse than the 1995- 2023 (ongoing) uphill battle to recovery that has blighted decades of life.,
Bleach water in a shallow tray locked behind a door for safety of the dogs, sometimes you just have to,, I dont have a uv light big emough.

I do wonder why new hospital rooms, however, (now often individual rooms) are not designed for automatic aerosol + uv timed seal & clean after stripping down bedding etc

That's why I said put it out in the garden in the sun - natures UV light! You can't get a UV light much bigger than the sun

Forgot to update..

The drain hook keys I ordered (pair) ..one bent.
Drain one, us nil.
Tried ringing around to hire this..
https://www.screwfix.com/p/1ton-manhole ... aker/3650k
But nothing on a small scale you could get into a house.

The suction cups suggestion sadly would not seal properly due to tile size.
So still stuck & being careful.
time therefore to discuss what to use as a metal to metal cover grease to assist future removal.

@Desp any ideas to this stuck cover dilemma?

I am sure there used to be "manhole grease"... and it seems there still is!
http://www.dureycastings.co.uk/shop/the ... 50&cat=118
and several other brands from a quick Google search.
I'm sure someone laughed at me when I mentioned it to them about 20 years ago, so I was half expecting it to be a figment of my imagination!
