Freesat fault !

Strange fault and need help diagnosing cause.........
we have tv through satelite dish via free sat. Controller is a humax box that we record programs on its' hard drive.
Watched local news then a recorded program (Guy Martin) on the Humax.
We now have no tv channels at all - everyone says no or poor signal .
Tried rebooting tv and Humax box.
Checked dish -low level , seems fine -no obstructions, all cables seem in place.
Recorded programs work fine still.
How do i test if its freesat LNB (new 18mths ago) or a Humax reciever failure ??
Any thoughts anyone ?
George

I can’t remember the last time I watched TV.

Sorry to be unhelpful but I’m not sure people on here are big TV watchers!

You can look at the signal level being received by the Humax box by going to the menu ->Settings-> System Information -> signal info.

If there is little or no signal showing then I would suspect the LNB. But first double check the cable connections, especially the LNB end and check for water ingress. When the new LNB was fitted where the connectors sealed with self amalgamating tape?

When I installed my Freesat box circa 12 years ago I had an LNB signal meter (was about £30 back then). Afterwards I lent it to a work colleague and after he had it about a month I asked, if he had finished with it. He said he needed it for another week. That's the last I ever saw of it.

There are some now as cheap as £10 on ebay.

I remember a top tip was to apply a lot of silicone grease to the connections to the LNB. I guess similar to marshmans tip of using self amalgamating tape.

Broadband is crap round here. But we get decent mobile signal. So I binned off the phone line and rely on 4G, which is pretty decent. There is a Vodafone call centre not far away and the housing estates where the call centre workers live get 5G. Doesn’t stretch this far unfortunately…
