Does anyone know how we got on yesterday?

Did the record fall?

There seemed to be a lot of wind generation around 6pm yesterday, right when we could actually use it, could we transport it though?
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

I was at my parents in North England yesterday as it was my dads 93rd birthday.

It was certainly windy alright, but I did not realise we might be on for a record.

From gridwatch the highest yesterday (26/09/22) was 15.115 GW at around 5pm. The previous maximum on Gridwatch was 15.788 GW back in May when I think we broke the record at a peak of 19.9 GW.
https://www.energylivenews.com/2022/05/ ... 20so%20far.

So, although close, probably not quite a record, but that 20's GW's gotta go this winter, what with all the export to Europe.

For info, Gridwatch does not include an estimate of un metered wind so thats why near 16 GW translates into the May 19.9 GW record.

Maybe another chance of wind record tomorrow afternoon (Fri 30th Sep), normally I would say no at this time of year because of lower demand but with all the export we are doing with Europe, you never know. Not quite a storm coming but its going to be consistently very windy all over the main generating areas tomorrow afternoon. There is also a yellow met office wind alert for north and west Scotland. With a bit of luck WT1 will be maxed out and hopefully not shutting down.

I believe the official record is now around 19.9GW from back in May this year.

The scores on the doors to look for is about 15.8GW on gridwatch and 19GW on energy numbers.

https://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk (does not include unmetered wind)

https://energynumbers.info/gbgrid (includes an estimate unmetered wind)

The wind resource looks like enough for a record, if no curtailment.

Its going up, but WILL it keep climbing all the way ?

Currently 12.7 GW on Gridwatch and 16.7 GW on Energy numbers which mean we are only about 3GW off the record.
The wind has yet to boom across the North Sea Offshore generating areas but its coming.

I'm assuming the record can be broken as more turbines are in the sea and commissioned?

Absolutely we are breaking it every 6 months or so but it does not get reported as much anymore. Now its even more likely because of less curtailment. We have higher demand because we are typically exporting to Europe instead of importing because of French Nuke problems and the need for Europe to preserve their gas reserves over winter.

Also we have our declining UK Nuke plants, plus incremental increases is usage due to EV's and heatpumps so less chance of curtailment.

As I post, Gridwatch is 14.3 GW and Energy Numbers is 18.4 GW, I've never seen such increases, we were down at around 5 GW only a few hours ago.

Nice and fresh here on the west coast of Wales, - one of the days i wish i had a WT, even one of the lantern chocolate tea pot types would give me more than the panels are today - 346Wh so far in the perpetual Twighlight for the panels meanwhile its been around 50mph all day.

Maybe its past the peak or its the mid afternoon lull, time will tell.
Currently topping out around 14.9 GW on gridwatch and 19.2 on Energy Numbers, so I reckon we are only 1 GW from the record.
But we quite often get 1 GW from the record. ;)
