The generator, which houses the copper rings and magnet, is now on site, along with the three turbine blades. Great progress has been made over the past two days. We hope all our members are enjoying seeing their turbine going up. Due to poor lighting and worsening weather conditions, the on site team will now wait until tomorrow to confirm the build schedule for the coming few days. We will update members as soon as we hear more.

Looks like it will either be tomorrow or Monday looking the weather forecast.

Glad they are cautious.

It was too much to hope that it would be done in one go! I suppose they had to build some slack in the schedule to allow for weather and hitches, they may now be ahead of themselves and waiting for a different team to turn up for the next stages, which must be pretty specialist jobs.

Game over for this week, but what a lot they got done. I reckon if it cant be done on Monday it isn't happening for quite some time as the stronger winds looks like continuing.

"The team are currently assessing weather conditions as the wind has picked up significantly, making it unsafe to lift the generator and blades into position today. The poor weather looks unlikely to appease across the rest of the week. The team will continue to monitor conditions and we will let members know as soon as we have an update."

Day 3 Video.

So they did get some work done yesterday and managed to lift and fit the generator. They are hoping to re-rig the big crane on Sunday and lift the rotor (last bit) on Monday.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow's lift and an incident free day.

Like you Joeboy I've been wondering if they've managed to re-rig today. Just checked the forecast for Cardiff with wind speeds presently and for tomorrow around 5-6. Not sure if this is mph or knots. Hopefully not Beaufort scale! :D

Yeah but I don't envy them, its absolutely freezing out there and if it does not happen tomorrow, its going to be some time before the wind drops enough again. Also we are around the 28th day since the concrete was poured, so it should have reached maximum strength. :)

I think the rigging of the crane, if it happens is going to be overnight or very early morning, they have previously said it was last done in darkness under floodlighting.

I went to a restaurant on Friday night (first time in 2 years), and I was showing another Ripple member the photos, they had not even looked at anything that was going on. She asked me how many watts does it generate when the wind is good. When I replied two million, five hundred thousand, her jaw just dropped in disbelief.

Even my father is getting exited when I emailed him the photo's. He asked me do I need to increase my monthly direct debit as his bill is getting higher in the colder months but I told him, no, your likely to be reducing it soon.

Also my father could not believe the size of just one of the rotor blades.

No news yet...
I wonder whether, if you assemble it at 0 deg C and torque up all the bolts holding it together you have to come back when it is warmer and re-do it after they expand and lengthen?
