Re: Part ownership of a Ripple Wind Turbine, fancy it?
And another update on the outage at KH earlier in the week, unfortunately it looks quite windy next week.
UPDATE 16.08.24 The SP Energy Networks Control Centre has looked into the LMS events on Monday and Tuesday at our request and they have come back with some very useful details. There is a fault in one of their grid transformers at Maybole which meant that capacity here was roughly halved compared to normal conditions, and this coincided with a period of high wind and low demand in the area. There was also an issue further upstream on one of the transmission circuits near Kilmarnock. This resulted in all the local wind farms being taken offline for a period. The SPEN Outage Planning team have now added Ripple as well as RES to their contact list so we'll know in advance in future when there are planned works on their system. Knowing of this grid fault wouldn't have changed any actions anyone took, it would have just enabled us to confirm one of the underlying causes slightly earlier. There are works planned by SPEN to resolve the transformer issue next week, so as advised yesterday, the site will be under 'single circuit risk' at this time and if windy, we would anticipate some further LMS curtailment and/or outages.
As a reminder we are providing more detail on this occasion than you would normally receive as the first instance of this occurring during the operational phase and helps educate all members of what goes on during times such as this.

The KH video includes a close up of the switchgear cabins with SF6 warning labels on the outside. Not very green when SF6 has a greenhouse gas index of around 23000 x that of CO2 and is due to be banned in new switchgear by the EU in 2026. There are SF6-free alternatives on the market already so why did Ripple and their subcontractors go down this route?

23,500 times worse than CO2 over a 100 year period.

Re: Part ownership of a Ripple Wind Turbine, fancy it?
so that's 2 lots this month, June's (heavily delayed) and July's. good to see them back up to speed...
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

August already looks to be about 10% give or take ahead of July complete month.AE-NMidlands wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 6:06 pmso that's 2 lots this month, June's (heavily delayed) and July's. good to see them back up to speed...

To be honest I'm really disappointed with my Kirk Hill involvement so far. I'm hoping its going to really improve.
