I was thinking about this today. Essentially we are micro producers being paid a rate for our power produced. One step away from what I'd really like. A kWh being a kWh at my end less management, transmission and network maintenance costs. An imperfect world and I think it'll be while before that next step is taken if ever. In saying that, I look forward to watching it all play out.

I assume with Dave Evans buying up the outstanding shares after 31st July then the co-op won't be paying interest on as much of a loan?

There will be no loan at all so there will be no interest to pay. There is still the £1.1m grant from the Welsh Government but the payment for that is the same as being a member. Dave Evans will probably receive his payment in a similar way to the Welsh Government.

I hoped that would be the outcome. Great news! Looking forward to the next WT1 build update.

He said, "I'm in, maybe I should be a bit more greener."

Your 91 years old dad, its a long term payback !

But its 6.5%, how much can I buy ?

So I signed him up for just over 1kW.

That's a good story, good on yer Dad! I've been back and forth in my mind wether to buy more but I'm sticking with next investment being into
Ripple WT2. Eggs in one basket, fallback position if a single point failure etc. Hoping site for WT2 isn't just half a click West of WT1! Will see/hear soon enough!

I was thinking where a good place might be for WT2 to compliment it, i.e for different wind conditions. I was thinking East Anglia or even Aberdeenshire in your neck of the woods might work.

Look for "Red Tile" / red tile farm / red tile trust, some of the earlier East Anglian turbines built, which are now surrounded by plenty more.

Admittedly the problem with moving any further out into the fens brings with it problem potential of being underwater once more. so i'd use red tile as a furthest out marker point with any recommendations for this region, also fair to point out the lowest point in the UK (& sinking) is just a few miles away!

Following that Godmanchester, decent altitude rise & home to agricultural fields & 30 years of likely data from Wood green turbines, & yes it blows up there (by fen altitude standards)

This is the opposite to my experience...
I (grandad) have got less than 10% of my savings in green energy, but what I have got produces 7% (Ecotricity bond) and 2 to 4% for the rest - or will do quite soon when they start generating.
If you are just focussed on returns, all are far better than anything on offer from National Savings. If you are concerned about ethical investments and prepared to forgo the highest returns then these should be a no-brainer.

However I can't get my kids to take it seriously. They are both established professionals and should now have a few £k to save, but they see these things as snake oil, one of dad's hare-brained schemes (but I don't see any of them as a get-rich-quick con, and I haven't backed a loser yet...)
I despair of the next generation, but live in hope that their kids might challenge them sometime soon I'm pinning my hopes on Greta, I can't see Boris or his cronies ever making the step-change reductions in energy use which are so desperately needed...
