I had a text message from SSEN at 13:24 warning of high winds for the North and East of Scotland till at least 21:00hrs and it is blowing pretty hard just now.Adokforme wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 1:38 pm Thanks for that Nowty, impressed with all the graphs you manage to conjure up for us. Some of them I actually understand.
Checking out Robin Hawkes Renewables map it would appear that both Moray East and Beatrice wind farms are being curtailed to about 50%. I'm assuming this as the wind is stronger up there than anywhere else! I guess it's just a problem transmitting it further south when so much wind energy is available there too!
If they were both at 100% then another 0.9 GW or so would be on offer!

Absolutely no apologies necessary Nowty, I'm simply enjoying all the info you guys so freely pass on. The Robin Hawkes Renewables map you mention if superb for benchmarking both GF and KH.Adokforme wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 6:13 pmAbsolutely no apologies necessary Nowty, I'm simply enjoying all the info you guys so freely pass on. Cheers Nowty. Can't wait for KH & then Dogger Bank to come on stream. Shouldn't be any question of a fresh record appearing after that.nowty wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 8:04 pmThe Robin Hawkes Renewables map you mention if superb for benchmarking both GF and KH.Adokforme wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 6:13 pmAbsolutely no apologies necessary Nowty, I'm simply enjoying all the info you guys so freely pass on. Re: UK Wind Record
Wind giving it a good 20GW blast this evening - not a record but getting there- but is gas at 1.6GW a record low?
No coal, and even biomass is down below 2GW. Very low carbon intensity for sure.

Re: UK Wind Record
Carbon intensity is currently at 30 gCo2 / kWh, the record is 27 so its extremely low.
Its also forecast to be similar as low for the next 2 days.
https://carbonintensity.org.uk/
For context the UK leccy average is around 230' ish.
EDIT - Also the lowest Gas is just under 1.4 GW about the same time last year and we had 1.5 GW in March this year.
But again gas at todays 1.6 GW level is extremely low.

About as high as our nuclear fleet gets these days - one generator turbine at Heysham has shut down to address unusual vibration but everything else is up and running.

Re: UK Wind Record
It was partly a guess from where we were a year or so back, but everywhere you look you get a different answer. But it is (on average) coming down year on year. We did have a blip in last year when we where burning more gas and exporting to Europe more cos of the Ukraine war. Then it depends if you count biomass as zero free, how you count the leccy on the interconnectors, losses in transmission, etc. This year has been pretty good on wind resource too.
Ripple Energy uses 212 on our WT dashboards.
This one says its 182 in 2022.
https://theenergyst.com/2022s-grid-is-u ... eats-20gw/
This one says its 225 for this year.
https://www.itpenergised.com/new-uk-gri ... tors-2023/
This one says its 250 for 2021.
https://www.aquaswitch.co.uk/blog/carbon-intensity/
But the point I was attempting to make is that the current levels today are very low, irrespective of whether the average is 150 or 250.
