36V brushless motor, any use?

#1

Post by Joeboy »

I have literally no clue 🙃 as to how I'd go about building a WT off of a 36V brushless small form motor.

I did find myself bin diving today for the 36V battery operated chainsaw I'd Binned a couple of days ago. It lasted 2 years plus and did a huge amount of silent efficient work.

Wondering if I can get the motor to output rather than consume power via Wombles style add ons of a rotor and blades. 🤔

Unlikely I know but its quite a cool looking motor...
16.6kW PV SE, VI, HM, EN & DW
Ripple 7kW WT & Gen to date 11MWh
42kWh LFPO4 storage
95kWh Heater storage
12kWh 210ltr HWT.
73kWh HI5
Deep insulation, air leak ct'd home
Zoned GCH & Hive 2
WBSx2
Low energy bulbs
Veg patches & fruit trees

Connect the battery cables to your voltmeter then spin the motor with a drill and see if you get any output first.
3.87kWp PV
10.24kWp PV SolarEdge system
Tesla Powerwall 2
100 x 47mm Navitron tubes (still being installed!) Now likely to be removed for more PV.
MK2 PV router DHW diverter
Morso 5kW WBS
Vaillant AroTherm 10kW ASHP

Thanks Ian, will do. Was actually dreaming about it last night. Arrived at a 2ltr pop bottle as the motor housing. Fingers crossed it outputs as it is a very cool half fist sized motor. Plus I got the battery mount, would be nice to be charging the power tool battery packs off of a diy windy Miller affair. 8-)

If it's a brushless d.c. motor then it probably has 3 large wires and outputs 3phase a.c., so put the voltmeter on a c. And connect to any two wires.

You may find that it needs to go unreasonably fast (for a wind turbine) to produce a usefull voltage, but that depends on what voltage you can make use of. And you never know.
450W hydro-electric
5110W pv
1.3kw Wt2 - not yet producing
6kWh lead acid - maybe 1kwh useable
LiMnCo battery made from 2nd hand hybrid car modules 3.6kwh nominal 24v.
300lt hot water tank and two storage heaters
ASHP Grant Aerona 3 10.5kw and UFH
