How much capacity was added in the UK last year? I know we're yet to enter the low wind part of the year, but wind power is averaging nearly 12GW so far compared to 9GW for the full year last year. UK grid intensity is down to 130g/kWh compared to 152 for the whole year last year. That's pretty damn good. Interesting implications for heat pump heating intensity. Even with COP of just 3,would deliver heating emissions of about one fifth that of a gas boiler.

According to this website

UK "only" added 2GW of wind capacity in 2023, with 17GW in Europe more widely, of which 14GW was onshore.

Still, 2GW is pretty good.

This year may see wind outstrip gas as single largest source of electricity. And renewables as a whole, which pipped fossil fuel generation for the first time last year, might extend that lead markedly.

Exciting times. Must get that heat pump installed...
