Hornsea 4 "Shelved"

#1

Post by dan_b »

The 2.4GW Hornsea 4 offshore wind farm, which won a contract in the last CfD round, has been "shelved" by developers Orsted.
Seems they don't think they can make enough money out of it.

Unfortunately this is a sign of the times. It's not the first cancellation and no doubt it won't be the last. The economic case for such projects in the current environment is clearly wafer thin.

Nice if the government/national grid what ever suitable body stepped in to add extra generation and ran it as a national asset.

Not so sure its been shelved but postponed. Basically the industry is running up against capacity issues and with it price increases.
Also i suspect they ran up against a delivery time deadline. They paid a huge penalty to delay but they will be back.

Further down the line i can see the time when gas no longer dictates the leccy price and prices drop, maybe as soon as 2030. What effect is that going to have on these projects- my guess is death or in effect a Gov contolled price by CfD for the whole grid.
