4 large lakes

#1

Post by Eabadger »

A bit of background to a new project we have been asked to look at
A large property empty for at least 25 years, the last owner and creator was the boss of a motorway construction team who during the 60’s were on strike, a lot, during the strikes he created with his team and equipment built a dream
4 large manmade lakes dams hills power station!
Yes a turbine house
Oh and a windmill, more on that later
Water turbine is peloton, running in a back axle of a 2nd world war German lorry
The generator head is 6kva 3 phase 750rpm feeding a km to house with overhead cables and propper electric board posts, assumed borrowed from sites
A water regulation system comprising of pistons that as the pressure rises the weights push up and allow pressure out allowing speed to slow
All very well done for age, but now we have been asked to modernise
The largest lake is 16,000sqm at we think 15m deep, sluces gates big controls all in place
But turbine house controls for water showing age
As client and myself found out when he tried to open a big valve, we all got very wet, so all needs renewing
My thoughts are a modern dc generator feed the 1km to mppt type inverter which we can grid conect
The lakes have spring and stream feeding them

The windmill ? Turns out to not produce power but use it, as we discovered when we and Edenis (electric board) connected the power back to house, will post link to what we found

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated

Have a look at kris harbour on you tube
He’s done a good hydro set up, with an interesting control system, has tweaked the system, fabricated stainless steel section.
Now he has finished his off grid workshop he is using his experience as a business.

I want one :D

Is it just a "folly" or was it intended to generate electricity ?
A folly
Fitted with two 10hp 3 phase motors the one to turn sails belt had fell off we found when we broke in, was wired directly to mains!!!
