'A 1kg piece of wood at 20% moisture content has about 4kWh of heat energy'. That is interesting, would that be a hardwood? Most of my available is soft or soft/hard. About the only legit hardwood I have is cherry and that is limited. Cheers!
Softwood has slightly higher calorific value than hardwood , due to more lignin and probably other aromatic compounds, trouble is it tends to occupie 1 1/2 times the space of the same weight of hardwood.
You cannot directly measure flame temperature because the flame immediately radiates its heat to the stove body and through the glass, if you could burn a piece of wood perfectly the adiabatic flame temperature would be about 1600C.

That is an increase in knowledge, thank you. we have a balmy 11 degs here in a double digit 3 day forecast. WBS is up and running. Twinny fires up really quickly, a good 10 minutes before the larger ecofan 812. It did say on the Amazon blurb that it fires up as low as 50 deg c. Certainly seems to be .

WBSx2
Low energy bulbs

Another great wee job made super easy with the oscillating multi tool.(sound like Victor Kyam nosehair ad). Ran in left hand side 1 mtr long brace so I could fully utilise the 2 rows in garage woodstore.

A small.thing I know but one of those annoyances thats niggled for a few years. NOW we are ready for the 1 month storm.

SWMBO is frying mushroom on induction hob, airfryer is on, son is gaming on the big rig and lights on everywhere along with two dehumidifiers running. I know I'm repeating myself here but this is something else to see.
No doubt in my mind that half the RE battle is identifying those high load older items and replacing when we can. We HAVE got a half kW coming in from PV but it's the low load gear that's doing it today.

Fired up the WBS
Made a cuppa (On IO)
Set up Ho Fat's Winter laundry
SWMBO stacked the Woodbox (she won't let me).
Kettle on WBS
Clear path of snow
Good to go.
Snow continues as does IO, although IO stops at 11am. Can't say the same for the snow.
There is something so enormously satisfying about these activities rather than just throwing a switch with no thought.

Joe you can get on with things today as you'll not need to keep an eye on the PV output!
Aye,
Did it all this morning! Off the Edinburgh tomorrow morning. All the best Ian, get yer money off they bandits!
At the moment, it's Voltarol, book & classic fm time.
Happy days!
P.S, yon wee twin fan is something else for the drying.

Same here, I noticed a really big difference with the 2 fans running.
Now that I've felt the benefit of two fans I'll be needing at least one for the cabin stove. It's just not doing it anymore.Need that turbo!
Picked up a wee 2 drawer campaign style storage unit the other day for in the cabin. Tenner.

Apple sauce (our 22 apples) & bread sauce on the WBS. Water already WBS boiled for the cabbage (now finishing on the induction hob). Pork and roast potatoes cooking in the airfryer. I really enjoy and appreciate running the evening itself and cooking meal under the 3.6 to 3.8kW hybrid inverter limit. Be present in the moment type thing.
Guilty secret time..SWMBO bought me/us electric salt&pepper grinders for Christmas. Had to default to alkaline AA's though... Not good enough, so more rechargeable AA's to be bought.
