Thanks Ian, good to know. I didn't get the battens yesterday but hopefully on for some 1 year air dried local 8"x2"'s Scots pine which I'll rip down on the tablesaw.

I am aiming quite high on this while keeping my Womble ethos firmly in view.

Doesn't look like 3 days work eh?

We got to speaking about walls today. There may be some plant/timber coolness in the build. Strangely enough I've not thought about the power generation side of things at all since the go ahead was given. Just a handy other aspect of a roof to keep us dry.

Locally sourced rough sawn Scots pine timbers are on standby in a separate wee bit.

So guys, next question. Cladding?
Spruce
Pine
Larch

Which one for cladding & why, any input much appreciated. 🤔 👏

Spruce Pine Larch... Which one for cladding & why, any input much appreciated. 🤔 👏
Does it need cladding? That will further reduce the light in the rooms behind it. Pretend it's like a car-port, good for a washing line too!

The cladding isn't full wall width. Gable end(West facing) 1/3rd width. South wall (left) 1/2 maybe. The king post on the SW cornerwill be the pivotal feature. Hoping for cool not kitsch, a fine line at my age! 8-)

SWMBO has some excellent ideas for the space. I'm giving full reign. Not that I've got a choice! She also said about the light.

Joe, the only wood I have experience of is Larch.

Readily available, UK wood, weathers nicely untreated to give, in my opinion, a very attractive silvering.

Very durable.

Available in many options - rain screen, laths, T&G, ship lap.

We’ve used untreated wood sourced locally that comes in a rhomboid cross section - the top and bottom sloped at a 45o angle - creates a ‘lighter’ screen while still affording a clad effect.

Used these - https://co2timber.co.uk/

T seal for panels along with MC4 triple connectors and my personal fave, no 4.2 x 40mm s/s self tapping hex head screws arrived today. They'll do nicely on the boot room build.

Off adventuring to Turkey tomorrow. My backpack has an IQ7 250W micro inverter and a few mc4's in it. Oh aye and an IQ7 230V field plug. I forsee a Winter trip for a little mild balcony PV fitting. 🙃

Might nip over to Marmaris and scope out solid prices for panels over the weekend.

Thank you btb. I think we'll just go pine as we're duckback black coating them. Kind of kills my shadow gapped, silvering varied width board 💡 TBH, it's going to be what SWMBO wants. The process is evolving which is excellent 👌

Got back to the Shire this afternoon. Bit of lunch then collected 3 panels from CPS in town, HUGE!

A lot of building to do before panel fitting but a nice wee landmark, Solar gear is onsite! :D

Always a good feeling.

These 535W's are huge! Defo into unwieldy territory.

Two man lift for sure. Collecting the framing lumber tomorrow to start ripping it down from 8"x2" with a solar powered tablesaw. So far the build has been solar powered in its entirety. Going to maintain that through to the end (I hope). :D

Out of interest, who is going beyond 535's and has anyone managed a one man install at height?
