From past experience it depends on the wood - willow and other reasonably straight grained wood is lovely to split when green but when dry the wood fibres often don’t part evenly leading to those annoying logs that are almost split but not quite and are flexible enough to resist easy pulling apart ! YOU KNOW THE ONES
I always split oak green as it’s a b&gger when dry and dulls the mawl in no time.
Hawthorn, spruce and beach I prefer to be part seasoned before splitting.
That said if you own a hydraulic or electric splitter I don’t suppose it makes a difference when you split but obviously it seasons faster if split down as the surface area exposed to the air is greater.

Does it split easier when it's green? Certainly sawing with a bow-saw is easier - even if you use the (different) correct blade for dry/hardwood when it's not.

I don't notice much difference wet or dry as I use electric chainsaw and splitter. My back appreciates dry.

Stan I completely agree, most of what he does gets us part way to an answer but he leaves it there and it’s up to people to push to a conclusion or decide it’s not viable.
I’m still hell bent on building some gravity bromide batteries, 20 or so cells to get me to 24v and a litre each - I don’t mind that the discharge will be slow as I would use it to trickle feed background loads over a week or so during winter when we can be many days between a decent recharge day. Well that’s the theory - just got to get around to it but there’s easier wins to be had first if my unistrut ever arrives !!!!!
