When people have these kind of discussions i wonder whether they are trying to get to NET zero CO2 etc or 24/7 zero CO2.

For NET zero we need overcapacity of RE of all types and storage and burn some gas in those "beast from the east" moments. Offset that gas with more plant life and less meat.

For zero 24/7 we need to produce some synthetic gas in summer to burn in the winter in power stations.

I believe the tech for all of this exists already. What i do not see is the level of knowledge, education and commitment to bring it to fruition.

I would like to see
1) only old houses which reach EPC "C" can be sold. Those which cant meet this standard have the right to be rebuilt to EPC "A". Some exceptions.
2) No houses to have open chimneys ie open fire places.
3) Sealing done by professional firms, ventilation tests and mechanical ventilation.

This all costs money but saves money and the planet. The sooner we start the sooner we finish.
