Wood cabin woodstove suggestions

Hi lads,
We have a nice 4mtr x 4mtr log cabin. It has a double skinned roof with polystyrene sheeting in between to insulate and also under floor insulation. Timbers are 40mm.

I enjoy some of the Alaskan TV shows and as this is first year of retirement I thought it would be a good idea to add a woodstove to the space. Looking for ideas or examples of micro/mini woodstoves that have been heard of or trialled?

Fancy going down there to my bookshelves, choosing something and the kettles warming up.

Would likely go for vitrous chimney to keep costs down so will have to think about ways to dogleg out thru wall of cabin and isolate from same.

Might even rack out there of a night, kid on I'm 10 and in the big bad woods!

But in the end it'd have been too much faff sorting out the chimney exting the shed and too much space would have been taken up so I didn't bother. Now have a storage heater...

I have seen teeny stoves that go up on shelves on (probably the same) Alaskan TV shows. Nice idea.

Think it depends what you want, Joe.

It’s a reasonable volume you want to heat with, I’d imagine, not the highest level of insulation. Presume you want to see the flames, for it to be controllable, option to heat a kettle/stew and, potentially, be compliant with current smoke control ?

Just depends how far (and how much) you want to go - there are plenty on eBay from small scale manufacturers that don’t come with much in the way of approval. Also some good second-hand ones, though must are probably going to be > 4kW and too much.

As you’ve alluded too, biggest issue will be getting a single walled flue through a combustible wall.

Personally due to the in & out nature of workshops I'd opt for something that matches my pre existing log pile size, less fact imho & maybe reduce the chamber size slightly internally with extra panels.

Thanks Lads, I had a look last night and liked the look of the Burley Springdale at 3kW. I could easily use the same logs as now but at an angle. Hope to find one used on ebay. The Burley Debdale at 4kW was bought used for the house and all I have replaced is the door rope and top brick. Last being my own fault by being over rough!

I like the Hobbit stove so that's a contender too. Its a cool wee stove indeed. My hang up is efficiency as I'm now used to the extremely parsimonious nature of the Burley. Could probably let that req go as it's an occasional stove not a daily user?

Besides efficiency being a flexible feast in interpretation would being less efficient help keep the output down for what is a small space for 4kw

Which? has just published a report on log burners 7/7/21.
Unsurprisingly, Clearview got the top 94% rating. None got marks for ease of cleaning.
