The idea of a Buttered Cat Array as an anti-gravity device was discussed at length on the letters page of New Scientist a few years ago. Unfortunately, by itself it violates the law of conservation of energy - so it turns out you need to power it up by placing a large and very expensive Persian rug under the cat. This then needs to be regularly cleaned, with the energy you put in by cleaning it providing the energy you later take out from the buttered cat array.
