Quick news update on the foster fails from last Sep/Oct:

Toby has finally reached(ish) his target weight of 34kg ....... or to be a little more honest, he's reached 34.9kg, but it starts with 34 finally. He was 42kg when he arrived, and was one long large curve, but now has many curves.

Not such great news for the Cookie Monster. He's exhasuted every drug available to solve his need to scratch his neck. He's mostly healed, but still wears a cone and protective snood (piece of wrist bandage). He gets time out each morning and evening, when we take it all off, but has to be watched like a hawk. At times he's been on 3 different drugs at the same time, but still no success.

There's also concern about the long term harm from the drugs and steroids, and his quality of life with a cone on all the time, especially as he's only 1yr old.

So today he's gone in for an op, that the vet has never recommended before, and is banned if for cosmetic purposes. And that's to be de-clawed. Fingers crossed (bad pun?) he will only have his rear claws, and front dewclaws removed, but this won't be nice, and may impact his abilities especially outside. If it all goes well, he can have the cone removed, and if he seems to manage ok(ish) around the house, then we hope to be able to allow him outside eventually. Currently he lays at the conservatory doors and chirps through the glass at the cats and dogs outside.

But he's a sweet boy, and though smallish, weighs in at over 5kg and is built like a tank, more Staffie than svelt kitty. So I suspect he'll cope well. :xx:

News update on the latest failed fosters.

Toby (ex guide dog) is now officially lean. He's hit his 34kg target (down from 42kg in Sept), with an impressive 34.3kg. Now we need to just slowly increase his food to stop the weight loss and he's done.

And Cookie Monster is fully recovered from his toe surgery. He's down from 18 claws to just 8 (on the front) but is managing fine. Only significant change we've noticed is that he slides on smooth surfaces, like tiles and windowsills, but he's learning. We took the plunge and let him go outside, and he was great. And comes to a call, unlike all the other cats we've had.

He's also down from 4 different meds, to just a small dose of one, but doesn't seem obsessed with ripping the flesh off the back of his head anymore. Hoping to end that med too at next (possibly last) vet visit.

Only one big thing left to do .... we somehow have to break the news to them both, that they're adopted! :cat-shock:

Big Doyle looks like our Jaffa in size terms ! We are visiting st Ives this week but when we get home we are taking delivery of a tabby kitten who was in need of a home, he’s only moving about 750m from his house in the village to ours so not a big upheaval for him but the lads are completely unaware of the new family member so they’re going to be very surprised.
