"Only 1% of London bike thefts in the last 12 months resulted in a charge or caution, according to Metropolitan Police data.

More than 18,800 thefts were reported between November 2021 and October 2022, but only 206 sanctions were recorded.

London Cycling Campaign said it was "not good for the city" and would "deter people from cycling".

The Met said due to the number of calls, it was not possible to carry out a lengthy investigation in every case"

Lengthy!? ... try "Any" or "proper" 😣

Another Too low a priority crime to bother with, ..my own dealings with a stolen bike (recovered by myself) seems to be the same, outside of the capital also, .that was the one they failed to check records on & gave it to a little girl who I caught riding it many months later!

But then again, not much appears to be a priority for the police except gouging money from council tax to lock themselves inside once accessible police stations & ignore you trying to present to file a crime report, or in one case not even register lost & found property we brought in that "disappeared"

"call 101" . ..I dont wish to wait 2+ hrs on an unanswered call.

Have seen bike lock removed via battery grinder within sight & earshot of a council street warden in broad daylight Peterborough city centre (around Queensgate) ..not a care (by both parties) ..low priority ? no fingerprint dusting for burglary our way!
