This looks interesting - a smallish 5 door family hatchback with 63kWh of battery capacity for under £25k

£25k gets you the 58kWh version. Not that impressive price wise when you can get a new MG5 Long Range (61kWh) for £27k

Why oh why do we "need" ... "18-inch alloy wheels, a pair of high resolution 10.25″ screens with smartphone mirroring, rear parking sensors, a 360 degree camera, facial recognition, and a raft of other driver-assistance features. An app even allows various functions to be controlled remotely"

It is primarily a mode of transport, all this technology will be life limiting, the car will be mechanically OK but the "high tech" stuff will fail rendering the car useless as it will be "beyond economic repair".

As for OTA updates - they should get the software right first time, much of it is safety critical, it just smacks of lazy programming - or "coding" as the trendies call it. If they do find "bugs" then it should go back to the workshop for an "update" and it should be checked for correct installation. I used to write embedded software for medical products and once released rarely if ever did we need to do updates. Maybe I am a miserable old git but do we really want all these fancy features or are they there so we can impress our friends by demonstrating them once and then forgetting about them - to me virtually every EV I have seen has so many unnecessary "extras" and "features" that it makes me question the "eco credentials". I have been looking to buy a practical, no nonsense EV for literally years - (I seriously considered the tiny "Think EV" in the early 2000's, only thing that stopped me was it's limited top speed of only 40MPH. to slow and dangerous on our local rural roads.) Since then every new EV has been "bigger and better" but to my mind misses the point - they are suffering feature "bloat" just like Microsoft/Apple operating systems have over the years.

I'm guessing you won't be putting down a deposit on one then :)
