And of course its an SUV. Actually it looks a lot like a Lexus?

Claimed 270 miles of range. But doesn't say how big the battery actually is.
150kW DC charging, assume it's CCS.
Optional Solar PV roof for "additional range".

No indication of pricing but will be available in the UK from Spring 2022.

Another lot relying on the stupidity of the public then. How much good is a solar panel going to be compared to the energy needed to move a tonne and a half of stuff? It might even take more power to move the extra weight around than it is likely to contribute.
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

Is it me, or does this Subaru, their first full BEV, which happens to also be a sort of SUV, look exactly the same as the Toyota BZ4X, just with a different badge?

Agreed. Plus the cost/complexity. Joe public massively underestimates the amount of power a solar panel mounted on a car can produce, and massively underestimates the amount of energy required to move a car around...

Useful if you can get a rooftop space at the airport multistory while you spend your 14-nights in Benidorm, but otherwise: 🍫🫖
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

Re - the PV.

I don’t suppose they are particularly targeting that on UK buyers? There are locations where this could make a reasonable contribution? Los Angeles, for one? Maybe southern Spain, North Africa? Certainly closer to the Equator than the UK. Still a bit of a gimmick, but who am I to disprove the designers?

Yep, The Subaru is a "badge engineered" Toyota

Since when was “Subaru” a badge to stick on someone else’s car? They’re famous for being different to everyone else. Their cars were genuine engineering masterpieces. My old legacy with its 3L 6-cylinder boxer engine really could do anything, in any conditions. Sad times.

Sounds similar to SWMBO previous car being a Toyota IQ. Aston Martin bought some and changed them into the Cygnet and doubled the selling price but it was a disaster for them. I have to say for an ICE car it was a very fun car to drive.

This is worth a read too - an article about how Toyota is spreading misinformation about BEVs in Japan to schoolchildren
