It's not one big battery. You've got two independent mechanically segregated half-systems (one in each hull), and each half-system appears to have either two or four (not clear from the diagram) independent DC channels. There is limited weight impact - you've still got the same equipment rating, same amount of copper, etc. - and using more low powered systems is usually cheaper.

Yeah, the energy storage system aspect seems trivial, how is it any different than having two fuel oil tanks etc?
