Sounds like a horrible implementation of lane keep assist/ lane departure warning.

Amazed you can't turn these things off and for them to stay off.

EU rules require that if you turn off "safety" features, they come on again next time you drive the car.

My iD4 has "lane keeping" as do all newer cars I think. It isn't very aggressive and easy to overpower but was still quite annoying at times. However, it improved dramatically when they did a software update that uses GPS data recorded from VW cars driving on the same road to understand better where people actually drive.

I think I may have accidentally pressed the lane hold as I think some of you alluded to. Pressing it again doesn't appear to disengage it either. I don't think lane hold engaged should lead to an aggressive departure from ones lane in any circumstance. If it's still doing that it really isn't fit for purpose. The regular sit in the background and bleep hasn't been too bad. In fact its pretty useless as by the time it signals it is usually too late to help.
