I'd forgotten to do January.

Cheers for the reminder, our two vehicles re-taxed again. :xx:

What a load of nonsense road tax is turning out to be! It used to be obvious how much it cost to tax a vehicle (£20 motorbike, £100 car etc). Now there are so many categories and age bands that the DVLA have to produce a 2-page chart to help you work it out!

I think Im right in saying my 700bhp tesla, which weights 2.2tonnes will cost £20/year because it was first registered before 2017, whereas my wife's 2020 electric golf, which is 1.5tonnes and 130bhp will cost £195/year, and my daughter's 2011 diesel polo will cost her £20 a year. So are the government trying to persuade us to sell our modern zero emissions vehicle and replace them with old diesels? Hardly makes sense!

You can say that about almost every area of Taxation. The complexity is bewildering and expanding fast.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the Government is bemoaning the low takeup of EVs. The fact there is a simultaneous huge tax increase on EVs is bewildering. If ever there was any doubt about those in power being morons!

This new set of VED tariffs was announced and brought into effect by the previous Government.

It’s a dog’s arse of a scheme but ultimately EVs should pay some form of “road tax” given they use the infrastructure

It isn’t politicians of a particular stripe that I’m criticising. And the current lot (the ones bemoaning the low uptake of EVs) have had plenty of opportunity to stop the tax increase but haven’t done so.

Whenever you re-tax this month the expiry date will always be 1st March 2026 so there is no point putting it off till later in the month.
