Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
I'm sure you've all heard the argument that demand for shipping will reduce drastically anyway as we switch to renewables and EVs.
No need for oil, coal or LNG tankers, which collectively make up a large proportion of total shipping.

Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
Wouldn't that be comforting if it actually happened.
Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
Me thinks that a lobbying gpoup have brain washed you.
But I hope that you are right and I am wrong.
Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
Methinks you're rude, and struggle with logic.
I didn't say shipping doesn't need to decarbonise. It does, and needs to urgently.
I just pointed out that the shift to renewables and EVs will help.

Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
Isn’t there a statistic about 60% of all global shipping is the movement of fossil fuels?
So yes if we do manage the energy transition to any significant extent it should reduce the emissions from global shipping in and of itself.

Michael Barnard's a bit uncomfortably strident in his arguments for me, but he at least tries to use statistics where possible. He estimates about 40%

Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
I read the other day that the US has warned anyone against putting fines or restrictions on its ships for this.
Be an interesting one to watch for sure.
It does tickle me a bit though to know the world was explored, mapped and conquered by sail.
The industrial and oil revolutions were supposed to take us to the next level of freedom and exploration but has proven to be an anchor around our necks.
Now it seems WAFIs will rule the world again in a short while, albeit in a different form to the majestic tall ships of old.
