Just to say I popped to the local tip/recycling centre a few months ago, and whilst waiting in a short queue I spotted not one, not two, but three green flash numberplates on 'rubbish trucks'. I don't know how big the Cardiff fleet is, but was pleasantly surprised.

And for a bonus, our walking route to the park for the dog crosses a road which is now serviced by electric buses. I always stop and listen as they pass, you get the slight 'slapping' noise like a bike tyre on tarmac. I can actually hear the tyres not a diesel enegine, how great is that.

Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.

I've got used to listening for the tell-tale high-pitched inverter whine you get on some EVs when out cycling - Nissan Leafs I find are the most noticeable, along with the electric buses, but yes then its tyre noise.

Ours sounds like a spaceship at the sort of low speeds we drive around the lanes here, Apparently its intended to let people know that a car is coming, but frankly I think the tyres make most of the noise from cars at low speeds anyway.

Agreed, the sheer absence of engine noise & idiots / press for an ill thought piece of copy.

No engine? lots of tyre noise previously hidden comes to the fore ...no mean feat of logic to work that out, just as you can often hear a radio / music as a car, ev or ICE, approaches.. but still idiots like to gob off & advance their agenda.

I think there is now a mandatory synthetic noisemaker for EVs when at low speed. Mine is too old for it to be a requirement! But they do make odd sort of spaceship noises.
