Totally amped!
Just as bad as me buying the second most expensive thing after the house by pressing a few online buttons after half a bottle of red whilst SWMBO was away at her daughters.

Although at that stage my only loss would have been the non refundable £100 deposit if I had backed out.

When I broke the news to SWMBO on her return she screamed, I was thinking, is that a good scream or a bad scream. Turned out to be a good scream so we opened a bottle of standby champers.

There is always a standby bottle of both champers and prosecco in the fridge at Nowty Towers. :D
My SWMBO is now entering 'unsure about it' territory. Also in her nature, no screams yet but I think she is planning mild bragging rights at next ladies night.

What are you guys using for home charging? I'd like to be able to limit charge rate to about 3.5kW during good PV times yet have the ability to put up to 7kW or beyond on app if need be or in more of a rush or indeed I ever get my smart meter fixed and get onto Go. Any input welcome! :)

I got £1,720 more via "we buy any car com" even after having £800 knocked off for scuffs, alloy wheel scratches, etc. Only drawback was I was without a car for a week and had to walk + take bus + more walking to pick the car up.

I have two chargers,

A cheap 7kW Zencar one (circa £250 on alliexpress) on a 32A Comando Socket, this allows settings of 10A, 16A, 20A, 26A and 32A but you need to set it before plugging in and you cannot change it once the charge has started.

And a 7kW Wallbox which allows any current setting and allows live changes to the charge rate via a phone App even during a charge session. I managed to get one second hand for £300 although it had never been used. They are normally about £500 new or £1000 with fitting (£700 after installation grant). This one does not require an earth rod installation.

You might even be able to change the charge rate from the car itself, I've just never tried it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think from memory and from a USA Tesla forum, if you don't accept or reject the Tesla trade in offer, your not in the actual queue and you might be in limbo land. You might want to give them a call to make sure that's not true.

After waiting about 10 days and then reading that, I rejected the trade in offer because it was obvious I could get better elsewhere, then I became a cash buyer and was given a final invoice and was quickly allocated an actual car. I also think (but again cannot remember 100%) I could only enter my driving licence number and registration address details after rejecting the offer so I could move on to the next step.

If I was buying a charging point now 100% I’d go for a Zappi. I’ll swap mine for a Zappi at some point.

Right now I have a cheapo Rolec that I’ve modified:
  • To be “smart”, by having the power to the control unit go through a smartplug (the charge current doesn’t go through the smartplug).
  • To be switchable between 1.4kW and 7.4kW (this is just a resistor value). I use 1.4kW in the daytime to use some excess solar and 7.4kW when I need charge quick or during off-peak.

(The charger is doing nothing right now because the PHEV has gone and the BEV isn’t here yet.)
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Genuinely massive thanks, in touch with the fella at Tesla Aberdeen and he is on it. I'll have a proper swatch next week when home. I'm literally stunned that I've done this. Completely outside my normal parameters. :)
