Of course it's not a joke, unlike your response and assumptions.

I think we are dividing into 2 tribes, one among whom talking about how fast they can accelerate their tonne of metal is socially acceptable (the Top Gear clan) and another who see every new car as another nail in our coffin (the Thunbergites.)
2 worlds: mine is this one https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... ays-report
But they warn that if the UK is to make the necessary rapid and fair transition to a low carbon economy, the government must mobilise all sections of society – from trade unions to local authorities, community groups to businesses – behind a “national programme of transformation”.

Prof Patrick Devine-Wright, of Exeter University and a lead author with the IPCC, said: “We need everybody to pull together or we have no chance of meeting these ambitious targets and staving off what are going to be really, really damaging climate consequences.”

He said in the coming years many day-to-day aspects of people’s lives would need to change, from the way homes are heated to how people get around town and cities, from what they eat to where they work.

I'm so sorry I bought an EV that is "too fast". It wasn't that long ago that the only EVs out there were milkfloats and the G-Wizz. Which noone bought because it was awful.

I'll sell it immediately and buy a horse. And a birch branch to flog myself with.

If you really want to partition people into a mere 2 boxes, remember this.

Early adopters pay more as technology isn't so widespread nor commonplace, so typically are more careful of their investment.

When tipping point is reached (proper) you WILL have IDNGAF boy racers,

You will hopefully reflect upon your current perspective which is yet to play out, currently being more supposition than data sodden empirical reality.

I was on the harsh end of the totally unfounded "BAN THIS KILLER CRAZE" by the daily fail (in relation to the then relatively new winter uptake of snowboarding) ..such was the hype the incorrectly indoctrinated felt entitled to pee on our snowboards outside of cafes, knock them over from standing, (maybe taking ski space in a rack or otherwise) ..hitting us with their poles, swearing, spitting, punching us.

Being a big wide shouldered but short lad with a natural scowl & angrily flaring nostrils, I responded by shaving my head, removing my eyebrows & scaring the beejeezus out of those who showed us such unwarranted bigotry, going so far as to hold them up from getting on ski lifts where "pushing in" can be very much the norm & showing spittle flecked abusive aggression to those who slapped their hire ski's across our snowboards cracking & scratching the top sheet, to the point that sometimes I'd not let the bigots on a ski lift & yelled at them till they fled the scene & had to get another lift elsewhere.

For our mixed group I became the enforcer (or mother hen) because I'd had enough of the mindless BS literally "shoved" at us.

Fists if really needed, I had no problem acting out a threatening routine at a sneering family patriach & maybe making his kids cry based on his bias to take down the hill with his bloody angry wife yelling at him too (for going too far & putting them at risk of seeing dad / grandpa getting a beating in front of his subsequently howling kids).

Before reverting back to smiles & utmost calm deferential politeness to others in the queue, it usually ensured a polite 6 foot gap around us.

My snowboard used to cost a months wages, I valued it (still do) buying tech ahead of its time. (one vintage board now valued at 4k)

(Politeness in the mountain environment is best stressed as "we are all here to chase the same things that mountains provide, so please be polite & get along" our ski code is to recognise that the person in front of us has right of way & to work our own speed, cross slope planning & execution from there, ..no arguments, like not driving too close to another driver & having enough subsequent reaction time)

The daily fail later changed its ski show to ski & snowboard show (no apology for unfounded vitriol obviously)

E-scooters getting a modern rough ride equivalent.

I'm sure none of us here drive foot through the floor, & actually seek max re-gen opportunities to counter & assuage guilty, momentary "blips" of acceleration, its part of the process that EV ownership enables, neglected in wider public outrage & fictional reportage.

After all just like an ICE, it's got to be filled at the end of the day & "fuel" costs reflect in many peoples resulting driving attitude of economy as a kilowatt hour is easier to gauge than a per litre / gallon on a car.

I heartily recommend you try & blag one for a long drive acclimatisation for some useful insight as either driver or passenger, ..an ebike with its own rapid but limited acceleration potential can be used to form the same "anti" argument re traffic gaps & road crossing chancers if we blinker ourselves & reject alternative transport options.

Recent Voi e-scooter data from Cambridge stated in a somewhat "disappointed" tone with reporter smashing out a badly written piece picked up by others, that the rental scooters were taking the place of walking to destinations!? ..the somewhat cobbled. narrow, busy & awkward ancient streets of central cambridge and historical design (no thoroughfare for bikes / wheels, some places) not brought up to offer context, nor to mention that unless its university housing then you might be walking several grim miles in the less forgiving season, nor mentioning that "new to you" piques interest & joy-rides rather than A-B with intent, ..nor that it is a 12 months a year overseas visitor hive of activity with a heck of a lot of students spread amongst 31+ colleges, schools & faculty departments comprising of 20,000 students mostly centrally located.

if we'd gone on foot across berlin last year it would have taken us 5 hours to reach & search shops in an unfamiliar city for an elusive food product, achieved in 1.5 (with joyriding inbetween) visiting 5 supermarkets.

Balanced perspective, devils advocate et al, ..saves a lot of heartburn too ;)

(yup we are weirdo's who offer random folks a ride in our filthy ev's)

Please ensure the hessian sack you buy to wear is fair trade.

The other thing I like about the 3 speedometer (if set) it only shows current mph, not goading us "aspirationally" to tip the needle at the top end which is how ice has been played out with the needle, & youngsters trying to push it there in mums car that struggles beyond the mid section of the speedo.

All part & parcel of the induced calm within the EV cabin.

We used to have a cracking air cooled 3.2ltr 911. That was the most planted safest car for overtaking I ever had. Tried to kill me twice in Winter but that's another story.

I enjoy wafting along in the leaf and getting out and back in swiftly if need be.

I shall pay due attention in my next re-iteration of the horse less carriage as I'm sure we all will. Biggest deal for me isn't power, it's looking out for the clueless peds. They are still very much on the catch up curve.

yup, repairs aren't cheap, (as wham bam tesla-cam channel will attest too) so another reason to drive like an attentive angel rather than road daemon.

& having just popped out in it, the glaringly obvious current speed limit signage for the current road travelled serves as further reminder of compliance.
That's before we mention the programmable speed limiter.

We've started seeing whether drive assist works for any stretch of road as an indicator of which road to stick a "repair me" pin in on the council website.
If tesla computers could read the road holes & auto report to the council that would be impressive (ignored, but impressive)

Hi Gus. Elon was asked recently if FSD might choose routes to avoid badly pot-holed roads and construction zones, and I think he said 'possibly'. Not exactly what you suggested, but I can imagine it doing that eventually.

There's also the potential for a new income stream from Tesla's, which would be to use the cameras for data gathering / market research, such as 'what is the favourite colour of men's shirts' (just a silly example I've made up), so I would have thought it entirely possible for LA's in the future, to ask Tesla for reports on road conditions in general, or perhaps for images/videos of specific roads that have been reported.

Obviously there's the possibility of 'Big Brother' here, but I'm talking about public streets and images.

Tesla needs to keep it tight where data is concerned to remain trustworthy.

I hate data scalpers with a vengeance, but am happy to oblige in road safety car metric data type stuff that tesla innovation needs to go forward.
A council fleet of vehicles with this sort of tech would be both a headache & a blessing for getting instant feedback on road state, its te sort of thing that needs to be done that could save money within our piecemeal system, though when it came to a public claim they'd likely not want the data as it would be damning. ..councils are often as dishonest as many other govt layers.

Bear in mind that without GDPR all data is prone.
US laws mean there is NO PROBLEM selling on your data.

(I just spent 8 minutes turning off all notifications for yet another site in excess of 150 actions to achieve it just to read an EV article which is pathetic, and normally means going to 3 different sections of the thing to exclude myself, which if I could trust them more I wouldn't need to & would be less blunt in turning all & sundry to "off" definitively)
