Van of enormous power Mk 4
Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
Sitting at -6.8C so been giving the heat pump a test these last few days, it has run continuously since 5AM on the 1st only pausing to do defrosts.

Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
Phoned Swmbo, said it was -14 out at Rothienorman overnight! I've left the HP on 24/7. It's only got a cop of 2.5 today and we flattened the stack hours ago. Not bothered as I'm interested in the annual timeline. So far, so good though!

Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
Leaving it running 24/7 just now is a good plan.
My battery has been taking a bit of hit as well, down to 39% already as not much PV gain, well nothing from the caravan port due to the amount of snow on it.

Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
A HP isn’t a SH!
With a SH using peak electric is a disaster. Whereas HPs are designed to run on peak electric and rely on the CoP rather than the price of electric.
Obviously anytime the HP is running in off-peak electric is a bonus but you’re right not to stress it. SWMBO being cozy is the priority.
Do you have any residual SHs that can be used in very cold conditions? Is the WBS running?

Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
It's interesting, my GSHP is chugging along at a COP of 3.15 at -5º. Generally yours has outperformed mine when I've been comparing figures. I've never got round to calculating the SCOP. I really should get round to doing that. Input of 2.1kW, output ~7kW. I deliberately went for a big inverter and lots of battery storage so I can run it 24/7 off the battery stack.
Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
Good to hear the gshp is getting it done. I've started to actively charge the stack at a low rate to keep it off bottom soc. Once I get the 1500W booster in it'll be better. The hybrid inverter just can't shift enough electrons in the 6 hr window.

I did the same earlier to get my battery fully charged.

Re: Van of enormous power Mk 4
Aye, but there's batteries and then there's BATTERIES. I'm very much the former. Although I did think about T'ing off another 2 stacks into the loft space above the garage (directly about the wall mounted set up.
Not sure if I really need it. We'll see how I get on with the 1500W charger and EV tappable capacity.
Had a little zen moment in Braemar. We'd been for a good morning walk and were coming back.into the village. I stopped and watched a PV set up slowly shedding it's snow cover as the panels heated up.in the beautiful, crisp blue sky.morning. Truly excellent way to spend a few minutes.
Later we went to the pub.
