Had to check the date of that "article" - assumed it was an April fool.
What a ridiculous idea.

Weird idea for any BEV, but for a Tesla with access to the SC network why ....... just why!

Cracking good idea if you already have a hydrogen generation plant on your farm. Just need to fetch the price down. JCB already have tractors powered by a hydrogen engine so hydrogen on farms is a reality.

The article seems to be from 2017.
I can remember that there was also a German company who did a petrol range-extender for the Tesla Model 3.
And of course Rich Rebuilds put a V8 into a Model S.

It's like that line from Jurassic Park "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should"

Just a thought, do you know many farmers with tesla's? Didn't think the towed very well 😀

Probably not actually. Whilst I can see the viability of BEV's on a farm, especially as they could be charged from solar PV, I think HFCV's would be too expensive and tricky.

But JCB's idea to use HICE (not even HFCV's) is bordering on insanity. After all the losses in producing the H2, rather than using it via a FCS at ~50% efficiency, to power a high torque leccy motor, using it at around 30% efficiency to power an ICE just ramps up the fuel costs further still.

Back to the original story, to take a ~400 mile range BEV, that has access to a worldwide SC network, and then add hundreds of kilos of additional weight, just to make use of a near non-existent and expensive source of fuel (H2), why would you?

Any other make of BEV, would have still been silly, but at least been partially defensible.

Just for fun, one of my favourite Juice Media vids, check out the 30s mark ... "Here's one towing a F'n Jet Liner".
