I don't think so. Aren't Flettners spinning drums which generate forward "lift" by interacting with the wind?
I thought these were derived from sail and wind turbine blade designs to generate their propulsive force. (It says designed by an Olympic yacht racing team spin-off.)

I think you're right, they're "Just" giant sails but made from fibreglass/carbon fiber rather than sheets and rigging!

Nice simple animation with some good shots of the leading and trailing control surfaces of the sail, I like the fact that its able to be retrofitted as well as new build.
It reminded me of the kites that were in vogue a few years back, I wonder what happened to them ?
