I travelled the UK and Ireland in an electric car, and what a shocker: nothing went wrong

Despite being an EV convert, fearmongering made me anxious before my holiday. But the summer road trip reaffirmed my faith
...
I expected an adventure, and to come back with tales to tell, like running out of charge halfway up a mountain, or making friends for life with a random farmer as the car took all night to charge on their three-point socket.

But, sorry, I have no such tales. This isn’t that kind of article – it all went boringly well. My son had plotted our course on the Zap-Map app, which maps all the chargers across the UK and Ireland, choosing stops that had a backup charger down the road. It was this careful planning that meant I soon stopped anxiously watching the number of miles left on the dashboard display and started to enjoy the drive. We played games, set the world to rights, made up daft songs and laughed at each other’s bad jokes. We did see a lot of service stations and industrial estates, but we never needed any of the backups.
A nice change from the usual coverage.

Now if that story had came from the Daily Fail I might have some hope left for the world...

I really like the lamp post charging. I've not knowingly seen one yet. Eyes peeled. :ugeek:

I'm off to Glasgow next week. Its a little beyond my full return trip EV capacity. So I'll stop in Dundee on the way down at around 07.30 for a top up, bacon roll & coffee. Pay for charge with Electroverse card. That will come off my Ripple WT generated funds held with Octopus.

That's as complicated as it'll get. :D

One detail I was unaware of.

Good to read that Tesla V4's are going to be open to all with a ccs. 250kW at the moment. I'll maybe swing in past Perth Broxden and see if the chargers are up and running there. Not V4, chargeplace Scotland. Although there is a huge row of Tesla chargers there too.
