Another road trip
Another road trip
So I'm off to Germany on Monday for a conference, decided to go in the Tesla. That there's a decent stretch of derestricted Autobahn on the route had absolutely nothing to do with my decision on transport mode... lol!
Anyway, looking at an 1100 mile round trip, coming back Sunday. My hotel in Germany says they have 1x EV charging spot in the car park which must be booked. We'll see how that goes.
I'll post some photos/facts once I'm on my way!

Keep a look out for Hoymiles retailers? I could easily PayPal you the funds... he enquired hopefully? I have mild roadtrip envy yet very glad for you!dan_b wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 12:18 pm So I'm off to Germany on Monday for a conference, decided to go in the Tesla. Re: Another road trip
Quick post, will follow up with some photos/ vids later when have a moment to get them off my phone.
Outbound journey
541 miles
158kWh consumed at an average of 291Wh/mile.
Stopped overnight at my friends who live in Sandwich, so got a free charge there up to 90% before heading to Folkestone to get on the Shuttle.
Once in France, first leg took me all the way to Eindhoven - 185 miles, 3hours of driving, averaged 274Wh/mile for that stretch.
Plugged in at an Open Access V2 Tesla Supercharger Site (unusual to say the least!) and had a 40 min recharge which got me to the next site at a place called Kamen, in Germany. More on that later as it was rather cool/interesting place.
Anyway that stretch was 112 miles, 2 hours of driving, average of 296Wh/mile.
I then did the final leg to Kassel, and played a bit on the derestricted Autobahn segment there. Was quite a lot of stau, so wasn't able to really give it the full beans for sustained stretches, but was more of a yeet and brake experience. Absolutely killed the efficiency as you can imagine! But then once off the Autobahn, the final stretch to Kassel was entirely downhill, so ended up with a lot of regen.
Saw some interesting EVs too - a couple of Ora Funky Cats, some Lynk & Co SUVs, a Nio ET9, a Tesla 3 Highland, some Ys in that Germany only metallic Red, and one of the facelifted Model S (not a Plaid though, booh)

A few pics...
Boarding the Eurotunnel - Flexiplus ticket and was front of the queue, felt like I was going to drive the whole way across the channel!

New Tesla feature which I've not seen before. Once in France, this message popped up on the dash to say that the headlights had changed alignment for driving on the right. Interesting...

I bet that cleared any rust off the discs.

19.6kW PV > 114MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 34MWh generated
7 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
90kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 530 m3

Ok some little videos to share.
Both relate to the same Supercharger site in a place called Kamen, Germany.
Not seen this before
And, well, what do you know, there's an H2 site next to it
Bit more on the H2

Hi Dan,
Blue hydrogen is basically formed from natural gas that is cracked in a steam reformer to produce Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide, the Carbon Dioxide is "allegedly" sequestered to ground storage and the Hydrogen is pressurised in to the red torpedo cylinders for transport.
Blue hydrogen will always be a "greenwash" fuel and should be taxed accordingly as a fossil fuel.
