Now you've noticed one, you'll see them everywhere. Even on the top of food vans on the South Bank, or a kiosk on a sunflower field at a local farm shop.

Seen a view videos of these, I suppose ideal for remote connections or temp solution while you wait on telecom utilities to improve network.

A guy along the road has one, at first I thought it was a rain capture device for measuring rainfall but when I walked past it’s definitely a star link. My village has been getting fibre laid recently by a third party contractor offering speeds of 1500 Mbs

I’m reasonably happy with BT as they give you the disks for improving internal network coverage which is handy in a stone house.
So will bide my time and hopefully BT will see customers leaving and will ope the doors for negotiation

Yeah, the idea of satellite internet has great appeal in the huge swathes of the globe where there is no physical internet infrastructure - or even decent local wifi access points, or 4G mobile broadband. But it does seem a bit weird to use it for infrastructure connectivity in countries like the UK where all that stuff already exists. Mind you I suppose its all part of the vertical integration in the Musk-i-verse isn't it - why use someone else's tech when you've got 5000 satellites up in orbit to connect everything to! Surprised they're not already putting starlink terminals on the tops of all new Teslas then they wouldn't need to bother with a 4G modem...

It’s probably the time to deal with utilities,which in my commercial experience is painful. So this is plan B or it’s a redundancy incase the broadband goes down, all possible I supose

Starlink in UK costs £75 per month, here in Europe it is €50

I pay €40 in the Algarve!

Have had it for 3+ years in the Uk. No fibre on our street still and we are getting on for half a mile from the BT cabinet so copper broadband is limited speed.

BT wanted about £5k to install fibre and a 3 year contract - I am not paying for them to install the fibre infrastructure on my street.

Starlink I can cancel at any time.

What's the performance like with Starlink - particularly latency? Has it changed much over time - they're very busy lobbing new satellites into the constellation every few days to increase coverage and capacity, but then I guess the number of users is also increasing?

According to this website (there's always a website) there are now over 6400 Starlink satellites on orbit.

The equipment is also €100 euros cheaper in Portugal at €249 Vs €349 here!

I have never had an issue with speeds - it is something like 150Mbps.

In the early days in the UK there were outages of a few seconds quite often - something which would not affect streaming but could be annoying at times. It seemed to be regular - like there was a slightly larger gap between some of the satellites.

Now the outages are near-zero. Latency is around 34ms average, varying from 20ms to 73ms according to the app today, one 'network issue' of 3s in the last 12 hours. The system is great for streaming, downloads etc. Would not be so good for gaming I imagine.
